Warm Café

Following a discussion on fuel costs and local people possibly finding it difficult to heat their homes, a group of church members had the idea of providing a warm space and a warm welcome to all in our community. We opened our church doors from 10.00am till midday on the first Tuesday in December 2022 for tea/coffee, biscuits and a blether at no cost. We thought the Warm Café might run through to February 2023, but such has been the success, we are still going and flourishing. The Warm Café now runs every Tuesday 10am till midday and all are welcome.

In June we received an unexpected visit from a representative of the local Cooperative Funeral Care. He was very interested in this local initiative and encouraged us to apply for one of their community grants. I’m delighted to report that our application was successful and we received a cheque for £200 to assist with our running costs. A great result for the Warm Café team.

Sun 18th June – Prizegiving

We had a busy and emotional time at our service yesterday. Our young people told us about what they have been building together in Sunday School and Youth Group this session and enjoyed creating words like LOVE, FAITH, HOPE, GOD and JESUS from Lego, straws and pipe cleaners.

Our Session Clerk, Liz Osborne, presented the prizes and we were able to see some of what the young people in our Sunday School and Youth Group have been up to this session.

David McLachlan spoke about Derek’s contribution to our congregation, both supporting Liz, and also the significant part he played in our Buildings Group to ensure our Sanctuary is the fantastic space it is today.

It is almost impossible to sum up in a few lines the huge contribution Liz has made to our church over the years. As David said, there will be a ‘Liz-shaped hole’ in our congregation. She has been a steady, diligent, committed and inspiring Session Clerk and we will miss her terribly. We wish her and Derek many happy years of retirement at their new home in Largs.

After the service, there was a lovely cake for Liz which everyone enjoyed. Thank you! The young people and their leaders and families enjoyed a BBQ in the church garden. Compliments to the chef!
